Lyons at Millstreet, Co Cork

Millstreet is a small town and Catholic Parish as shown on the map below.

Co. Cork Tithe Defaulters for 1831, no Lyons given for DRISHANE PARISH in West Muskerry, Duhallow & Mayonihy Baronies.

However I found a forum request for info on:-

I emailed Michelle Elliot mgelliott@iprimus.com.au on 29 July 2007 to try to get more information. The reply is below

It would appear that this family was not closely related, as the Christian names are not close enough to our family.

Hi David,

I obtained the information on Alexander Lyons and his family from Margaret
Childs on First Families 2001. The original link is obsolete now, however I
just did a search and found another URL that takes you to the information:
http://www.chapelhill.homeip.net/l/FamilyHistory/Other/FirstFamilies2001/www
.firstfamilies2001.net.au/F_id=Lyons1620694508.html

Alexander Lyons' sons, John Alexander and Michael, married into one of my
families - the O'Keefes - in Australia (2 Lyons brothers married 2 O'Keefe
sisters). Besides the information from Margaret, below, I'm afraid that I
don't have any other information about the Lyons in Ireland. And, as you'll
see, Alexander and his family appear to have moved from Ireland to Wales
before some of his children emigrated to Australia.

Although it doesn't mention it, I assume Margaret must have obtained John's
birth location from either his marriage or death certificate.

I don't know if this information helps you to track your Lyons, but looking
at the names on your site, only a few appear to match the family names of
this branch in Australia - usually a good indicator that the families are
related (they seem to keep the same family names down the generations) - so
I'm not sure if they are related. ie I don't have any Timothy or Stephen,
but I do have a Mary and a Michael.

Anyway, let me know if I can be of any further help or if this information
rings any bells with you. If you do find that these Lyons are related to
you, I can put you in touch with Margaret.

Thanks
Michelle
