1891C,Alfred Mead, aged 24, brewer, single, living with his brother Walter Mead at the Wheat Sheaf. He is seen above with brothers Walter & Benjamin, probably 1893.
1900. Alfred Mead joined the Essex Regiment on 13/1/1900, on a short service, 1 year, contract, and went out to South Africa - Boer War. His occupation was brewer, and next of kin was brother, Walter Mead, The Wheatsheaf, Dunmow. When he came back he left, at his own request, on 16/61901, receiving a gratuity of £6.7s. . He is mentioned in the Chelmsford Chronicle, on the 11/5/1900, as having sent a letter from South Africa to his brother,Walter

Stayed living at 19 North Street for the rest of his life. Seemingly there were no children
2 postcards were found in Benjamin's possessions in 1997, sent from Alfred/Shadow, at 19 North Street, to Benjamin , the righthand one in 1928, the lefthand one in 1931.Keri thought he was known in the family as Shadow: this was also the nickname of one of his 4 eldest brothers [Abner?]. The righthand card confirmed he was married as it says 'love from us both' . Dunmow Electoral Rolls, 1901-1937 could be helpful in determining when he started living at 19 North St. .
