Alfred Mead 1866-1937 . Born. ‘Dec’ 1866 at the Wheatsheaf  to parents Thomas Mead & Elizabeth Savill . Baptised in G.D. Church , 26 Oct., father a Publican. [ERO]. Family tree on father's page.

1887.Alfred Mead was the informant on his father's November d.c: his address is given as 19 North Street.[ Rachel Meade has d.c.].

1891C,Alfred Mead, aged 24, brewer, single, living with his brother Walter Mead at the Wheat Sheaf. He is seen above with brothers Walter & Benjamin, probably 1893.

1900. Alfred Mead joined the Essex Regiment on 13/1/1900, on a short service, 1 year, contract, and went out to South Africa - Boer War. His occupation was brewer, and next of kin was brother, Walter Mead, The Wheatsheaf, Dunmow. When he came back he left, at his own request, on 16/61901, receiving a gratuity of £6.7s. . He is mentioned in the Chelmsford Chronicle, on the 11/5/1900, as having sent a letter from South Africa to his brother,Walter

1902 .Alfred Mead, 'Mar', marries Mary Ann Campen Chelmsford.. Not in Chelmsford Church-SEAX- but could be in a surrounding parish

1905. C/E 1/2/17 Electoral Roll has Alfred Mead in North Street, G.D.

1911C.A lfred Mead, was living, aged 44 , brewers lab., b.Dunmow, with wife Mary Ann, 39, married 10 years, no children, b.Plessey , in North Street [7 doors away from the Wheatsheaf], Dunmow, in 4 rooms.

1918. Alfred & Mary Ann Mead are in the 1918 Electoral Roll, living in North Street

Stayed living at 19 North Street for the rest of his life. Seemingly there were no children

2 postcards were found in Benjamin's possessions in 1997, sent from Alfred/Shadow, at 19 North Street, to Benjamin , the righthand one in 1928, the lefthand one in 1931.Keri thought he was known in the family as Shadow: this was also the nickname of one of his 4 eldest brothers [Abner?]. The righthand card confirmed he was married as it says 'love from us both' . Dunmow Electoral Rolls, 1901-1937 could be helpful in determining when he started living at 19 North St. .

1937. Alfred Mead dies 21/1/1937, buried 25/1/1937, address 19 North Street, aged 70 . No probate.

1939 Register. Mary A Mead was still living 19 North Street

1941. His wife Mary Ann Mead dies, aged 74, Mar 1941 Dunmow. Have not found her burial - seemingly not in G.D. church .
