. . . Probably working as a general servant, domestic, aged 17, b. Horsleydown, in Lewisham in 1881C. Descendant Nicola has her as a collar ironer. Marries William Rixon in Newington in Jan 1890, not in a protestant church, address given for her is 34 Kinross Street, that of her elder sister Elizabeth, now Lyons. 1891C - see image below - William - barman -& Margaret Rixon & son William ~3mths, are visitors at 11 Kinross Street, her brother David, also being there. The head of this household is one Albert Towns, who she marries in 1917!. She & William have 5 children: William David Dec Lambeth 1890-1969, Frank 1895, David 1896, Thomas 1900 & Bert 1902. Family living at 5 Sutton Bldgs, Newington in 1901C. This family unit of 7 are in Southwark in 1911C, living at 1 Alvey House, Alvey Street, Walworth , William a house painter, both aged 44, married 21 years, 6 children, 1 died. . William Rixon dies in 1911 and Margaret remarries an Albert Towns in Jun 1917 Southwark 1d.182, probably on the same day as her son marries. She probably dies aged 79 in Lewisham in 1942. Son William 1890 marries Elizabeth Todd in Jun 1917 Southwark 1d.142 and they have just one son William 1921. He marries Winifred Brooker in Lewisham in 1946 and they have Alan 1947 and Janice 1950. Alan marries Susan Fowles in 1968 and has Nicola 1970 and Melanie 1974. Contacted Nicola again for memories/photos 30/6/2010 - William 1921 still alive in 2009..
David . 1867 -1936?. Living with his sister, Elizabeth, in 1881C, after both his parents have died [ in 1877 & 1880], working as a travellers boy, aged 14. 1891C.- see image below - Living, aged 23, single, barman, at 11 Kinross Street, as a visitor, in same household as his newly married sister, Margaret Rixon. [mistranscribed as Daniel Tobin] . There is a marriage of a David Matthew Tobin in St. Olave 1d.533 Jun 1890 to Margaret Carney. This marriage, to Margaret Carney, is not him, as a David & Margaret Tobin appear as a unit in both the 1891C and the 1901C. Also a marriage Dec 1890 Tobin David Holborn 1b 1287 . This is also not him; wife here is Rhoda Sheppard and in 1901C a David & Rhoda Tobin appear together as a unit. Only marriage of a David Tobin 1891-1901 is in Chorlton in 1892: this David was born in the East Indies, from the 1901C entry for Manchester!. 'Our' David is in 1901C with his sister, Elizabeth Lyons, aged 30, married, wharf labourer, brother-in-law[to Timothy Lyons] but no wife.. 1911C, living , aged 43, single, given as a Packer & Sorter, b.Bermondsey, in Belmont Workhouse, Brighton Road ,Sutton . Thus feel 1901C entry giving him as married is a mistake. Our David probably appears again in 1920, for 1 year only, described as David Dobin, in 3 Marcia Road, the house where his sister, Elizabeth, and husband Timothy Lyons, are living, as a voter in the Electoral Roll Book. He, nor the other 2 David Tobins , seem to die before 1929. He might have died in 1936 in Bermondsey, 1d.165, aged 68: only 3 David Tobins born in England 1855-1885, 1 in 1857, ours in 1867 and 1 in 1869.
.
1891C for both Margaret & David
