Correction: The parents of our Ann Hinde , baptised 1727, were definitely not William Hinde & Hannah Bowell. Samuel Hands3 married Mary Robinson in Chilson 1750.
Charlotte Hands was born or christened on 25 Dec 1783 in Chilson, Oxfordshire, England. There would appear to have been at the least a chapel in Chilson, but difficult to find info. on it. LDS have records ~1868-1930 from a , nonconformist , chapel there. In 1781 Chilson was stated to be in the Chapelry of Shorthampton, Oxon [ from 1781 Charlbury marriage entry of Samuel Hands to Ann Knibbs].
Charlotte married Richard Robinson on 30/8/1801 in Shorthampton. He was a grandson of John & Margit Robinson: she was a greatgranddaughter of them! . Her husband was described as "Richard Robinson of the parish of Saint Ebbe, in the City of Oxford Yeoman" in the 1829 Will of her father Samuel in which she received £5.
She was buried on 2 Oct 1840 in Chilson, Oxfordshire, England, the same year as her husband died.
Her parents were Samuel Hands3, b. Shorthampton, 1751-1830 and Ann Knibbs, baptised 31/10/1756, died 1810, both in Charlbury. They married in 1781 in Charlbury - he identified in the marriage register as from Chilson in the Chapelry of Shorthampton, Oxon. The Knibbs family- see further down - were saddle makers in Deddington. This Samuel Hands3 left a Will, written 1829 - shortly before his death in 1830 - leaving £5 to his daughter Charlotte Robinson. In the Will he leaves to son William Hands " all the Commons, right of Common pasturage thereunto as belonging and appertaining situate lying and being in Chilson aforesaid in the parish of Charlbury or else where in the said County of Oxford which said mesuages and tenements ... have descended for many generations from time immemorial in my family and were given unto me by my late father - Samuel Hands2 "
Samuel & Ann Hands had Samuel 1782, Charlotte 1783, Jane 1786, James 1788, Samuel 1791 & Frances 1793, all baptised Chilson
Samuel Hands3 ' parents were Samuel Hands2, baptised 10/08/1729, Shorthampton, and Mary Robinson [daughter of John & Margit Robinson] 1718-1779 Charlbury. They married 1750 in Chilson. Samuel Hands2 was a higler: a person who carries from door to door, and sells by retail, small articles of provisions, and the like: this sounds quite basic, yet he obviously possessed land to leave to his son Samuel Hands3 above. Lots more facts on the Hands family at information provided by Colin Robinson.
Samuel & Mary Hands had Samuel 1751, James 1754, Jane 1756 & Mary 1759,
Samuel Hands2' father was Samuel Hands1, b. 1688 Winchcombe, Glocs., who married a Jane Licence in 1722/9? in Shipton, Oxon, Shipton being just to the west of Chilson. Also a Samuel Hands married a Frances Sutton in Winchcombe in 1712- Boyds : was this an earlier marriage for him?
No other known baptisms to Samuel & Jane Hands
Samuel Hands1' parents were Willij & Annae Hands.
Knibbs Family
Going back to Ann Knibbs. She was baptised in Charlbury in 1756 to parents Anthony Knibbs & Ann Hinde . She received £3 in the 1785 Will of her widowed mother, Ann Knibbs/Hinde. She married Samuel Hands3 in 1781 in Charlbury. She died 1810 Charlbury
Anthony Knibbs was baptised in 1729 in Deddington to John Knibbs & Jane Scarsbock . He married Ann Hinde in St George's Chapel, Hyde Park Corner, Mayfair, London in 1751. He died 1784 in Charlbury, seemingly no Will. But he was mentioned in the 1757 Will of his mother-in-law, Ann Hnde , and also in the 1753 Will of his brother-in-law, Edward Hinde .
John Knibbs was baptised 1699 in Deddington to Joseph Knibbs & Anne Richards. He married Jane Scarsborough/Scarsbock, 1703Enstone-1776 Deddington : nothing really known of parents- father ?, 1721,Enstone. He died 1770 Deddington, leaving a Will he made in 1763. See http://www.knibbs-family.org/fam050.html, part of Don Knibbs website. A collar maker, he left to his sons John, James, Anthony, Francis, Thomas and Richard Knibbs to each of them the sum of one shilling. Jane Knibbs also left a 1775 Will leaving all to her daughter Mary Fennimore & to the Rev. Henchman
Joseph Knibbs was baptised 1676 in Deddington to Samuel Knibbs & Ann. He married Anne Richards, ~1674-1726, in 1697 in Deddington. No death known
Samuel Knibbs lived ~1640-1697, dying in Deddington. His wife, Ann unknown, died Deddington in 1726, aged 80. When did they marry & where?
The Knibbs family were saddle makers in Deddington. Am in email contact with Jennifer Benson, Genes, Perth: we share common 6xggrandparents Anthony Knibbs & Ann Hinde . Her closer Knibbs ancestors were saddle makers in Charlbury until 1863, then saddle makers in South Africa.
Hinde family
Ann Hinde was baptised 1727 in Charlbury to a William Hinde/Hine .She married Anthony Knibbs in St George's Chapel, Hyde Park Corner, Mayfair, London12/12/1751 -apparently this chapel was used if parents disapproved of the union! : records 1729-1754 online on Ancestry - and died as Ann Knibbs 1785 in Charlbury, leaving a Will. The deceased's Effects do not amount in Value to the Sum of one Hundred Pounds. . She had siblings Edward Hinde1727-1753, leaving a Will, and Mary Hinde 1740 - >1757, who maybe marries Joseph Ward of Chadlington in 1758. Her father predeceased Edward, thus died pre 1753, so likely died 1743/1751, as the parish clerk. Her mother was Ann Hinde who died 1757 leaving a Will. These are the only absolutely certain facts about our Hinde Family, who I call Family1.
I think we need more facts to determine her ancestors - but her parents were definitely not William Hinde and Hannah Bowell . Maybe there are more Hinde wills that might help ?
William Hinde lived ~ 1678-1746?, probably dying 1746 as William Hinde snr, - as must be a son William for him to be senior! - in Charlbury. His wife Priscilla Clary, no parents known, lived ~1676-1723 . They married 1703 Charlbury and likely had the following children: William1705-c1710, Mary 1706, Eliz 1707, John 1709, Martha, 1710, Hannah 1711,William 1713
a William Hindewas baptised 1713 Charlbury to William Hinde & Priscilla Clary. He married Hannah Bowell, 28 Nov 1731 Oxford [OFHS marriage index William Hinde to Hannah Bowell both of Charlbury on 28 Nov 1731 at St Mary Mag, OX] . Hannah, no parents known, lived 1713-1757. He probably died 1743/1751 Charlbury - the other death being of the father of our Ann Hinde. . William & Hannah Hind likely had the following children: William 1732, John 1734-1813, Priscilla 1735, Thomas 1737, Joseph 1739, Hannah 1740-1749.
